I haven't been myself, but when my friend went he said he saw the animals being badly treated.

One place I do like is Khao Kheow Open Zoo (http://www.kkopenzoo.com/en_home.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)

That is very sad. I also, sadly, do not find that surprising, unfortunately. :(

Those pictures of the waterfalls are fantastic.

Dear Graham/Roland,

Please do not believe what they say...sometimes you have to see things with your own eyes..to know the truth. WHY? BECAUSE MANY PEOPLE JUST CAN' T GET NO SATISFACTION !!!!

No Satisfaction! : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5eJ5mtCyHSw" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Just like 10 people saw the same movie....they always liked/disliked/ok/not bad/good/very good...never the same opinion !!!

I believe my Upasika friend who observes 8 precepts everyday...she said very nice things about Tiger Temple...and pictures always better than thousand words !!!!

I'm not believing anything here. Nor am I accusing anyone of anything. Simply, I do not know whether these animals are treated well or not. But, any time there are humans keeping animals, I am not surprised if there is some abuse happening because it seems to happen so often. Of course it is great if they are treated well!

The waterfalls look like they are also being treated well.

Thanks for sharing the pictures!

Dear Buddhaflower

I am very happy that your friend saw no abuse, however my friend, whom I trust and whom I have no reason to disbelieve detailed quite specific abuse both by a monk and lay people. I have read other bad reports about the treatment of animals there, it also seems to have changed to be much more commercial than it was too.

With metta

The Tiger Temple has been repeatedly investigated. In each instance abuse has been found. Please do not support this place.

Tiger Temple exposed by Conservation and Environmental Education for Life (with video):

"On her last trip back in 2010, the reality of this place is apparent, it is a Tiger Farm. The other animals trapped in this place lead horrid lives."

http://www.cee4life.org/tiger_temple_thailand.php

Exposed by Care for the Wild International:

"Staff harass the animals with beatings and spray urine into their faces as a crude method of control. The tigers are released from cramped cages only when tourists pay to have their picture taken with the animals."

http://www.wspa-international.org/whoar ... Xw2tEnn9jo

Exposed by Andrew Marshall:

"The tigers are not, as the temple’s website says, 'hand-reared with compassion by monks'. Instead, say some volunteers, they are punched, kicked and beaten by badly paid and unqualified handlers to keep them subdued for tourists. Living conditions are grim: dozens of fully grown tigers are kept in small cages and never let out. Veterinary care is poor. Money that tourists are told is dedicated to the tigers’ welfare never reaches them.

"And even though the temple cannot adequately care for the tigers, it is breeding more. Lots more. The temple promotes itself as a home for rescued tigers, but nearly all of its 72 tigers have been bred on site. The purpose? Money, say the disillusioned volunteers. Petting sessions with tiger cubs alone can earn the temple more than $1000 a day."

"The impure person who will put on a yellow robe, without self-control and truth, he is not worthy of the yellow robe." Dhammapada 1.9 (trans. K.R. Norman)

"There are many with saffron around the neck, of evil nature, unrestrained." ibid. v. 307 (or 22.2 depending on the numbering)
