Lotus seed mala

This website http://dzibeads.blogspot.co.uk/2009_11_01_archive.html suggests that Lotus seed beads don't come from the Lotus Plant. Does anyone know where they come from then?

Imho these seeds look alike:

They are the seed of nelumbo nucifera, Indian Lotusplant.
The beads just seem to be polished and got rid of its skin?
Once i heard somebody call them "Bodhiseeds". This must be a mistake, because the seeds from the Bodhitree are very tiny.
This mala for example is called a "Bodhi seed mala". http://geschenke-spirit.de/Testshop/Med ... it-Zaehler
But the actual seed of Bodhi looks diffrent.
So i don't know how this mix-up of names could happen.

Bodhi-Seed-Mala seems to be darker...

I guess: what is a bead later was a container for the real seeds on the plant.
A capsule for the tiny seed.
And I guess, the small black points on the beads are the little caves of the real seed.
