thanks cooran and bhante,

Yes you are right, now this reminds me of the suttas of when Buddha was explaining to the physician of the king about blamelessness of eating meat and was won over and became a disciple. Glad i'm blameless in this matter.

Thank you Bhante, thank you Robert!
“No lists of things to be done. The day providential to itself. The hour. There is no later. This is later. All things of grace and beauty such that one holds them to one's heart have a common provenance in pain. Their birth in grief and ashes.”

in mountain clefts and chasms,
loud gush the streamlets,
but great rivers flow silently.

Has anyone here studied nutrition? So far I have found no one who really knows what they are talking about. I hear ideology. I hear an attempt to try to be perfect.
Don't get caught up in an emotional straight-jacket. Pretending to be a good Buddhist because you don't eat meat is just a fraud.

I was a veggie. Now I'm not. I have less fat and more muscle as a result of eating meat.
I've learned how to eat properly. I've learned how to exercise properly. And I've learned to follow a diet based on science, not emotion.

I don't care what anyone says. If you buy meat you share in the kamma of the farmer who raised the animal for consumption. A farmer does not keep livestock for kicks, they do not grow on speculation, they grow for demand, you stop buying they stop producing end of story. All of you are eel wriggling if you think your supermarket purchase doesn't lead to more killing, it does, that piece of meat you buy ensures another piece will be on the shelf tomorrow. I eat meat I share the negative kamma with the butchers.

Can a Buddha eat meat? : Yes!
Can a Buddha perform bad karma? : No! (he is psychologically 'impaired' in his ability to do so- nothing to do with whether he wants to or not).

Hope that clarifies,

Attached to my views, maybe. Still If you want to stop farm animals from being butchered stop eating meat. You are a part of the killing chain, if you eat meat, deal with it.

Hello Saltspring,

If I may ask, what would be your reaction if one were to offer you half of his/her ham sandwich?

To take and eat the sandwich is to become "part of the killing chain." To not take it is to kill your friend's good intentions.

Metta and Anjali,

Saijun

Buddhism isn't vegetarianism. It is time to remove vegetarianism posts from this thread as well..
