Aussies/anyone interested in Pilgrimage to India Feb 2012?

Postby cooran » Sun Jul 31, 2011 4:44 am

Hello all,

Dhammagiri Forest Monastery in Brisbane is arranging a Pilgrimage to Nepal and India to the Buddhist Holy Places in February 2012.

This will consist of one busload with either a two week or a three week option, fully escorted. The bus will be modern with an on-board toilet. :jumping:
The tour will be accompanied by Bhante Dhammasiha of the Thai Forest Tradition (he is a monk who speaks impeccable english and is well-versed in the Dhamma, originally from Germany).

Anyone interested please contact the company arranging it - Travelscene Springwood:

Western style. Just like the long distance buses in Oz, U.S. and Britain.

Greetings,

As good as it sounds, I'll have to give this a miss.

We're saving for a trip to Thailand - it will be nice to go a "Buddhist country"... I've never been to one before.

Metta,
Retro. :)

Hello all,

" There are four places, Ananda, which the devotees should visit with feelings of inspiration (Samavega). The places where he can say 'Here the Tathagata was born, here the Tathagata attained perfect and supreme Enlightenment. Here the Tathagata preached the first sermon on the incomparable wheel of the Dhamma. Here the Tathagata attained the final goal of Maha Parinibbana – deathless', and there will come, Ananda, to these places, pious Brethren and sisters of the Holy Order, and devout men and women." The Four Holy Places

Hello all,

Can hardly wait! The Pilgrimage departure date is only four months away. Time to be getting any necessary injections - must also buy some medication from the Travel Doctor - ''starters'', ''stoppers'', and ''anti-nausea'' tablets. Strange how even sitting in the office of the Nepalese and Indian consulate for an hour or so is felt as ''exciting''.

A couple of people signed up last week after I told them about it at the Bodhi Forest Retreat last month.

Still a few vacancies if anyone else is interested.

Hello David,

I think this is number 5 or 6. I went first in about 2002/3 with K. Sujin from Bangkok. But they were large groups - four busloads. Going to the four holy places plus extra places each time is so inspiring. We always stay a couple of days in each place. My favourite memory last time (apart from Bodhgaya and the Deer Park) was going to the place that they held the First Council. Up to a wild very steep hilly place with inspiring views, and the cave where the arahants sat. I had been wandering ahead up the winding track when the tour guide began shouting at me to stop - I got spoken to quite firmly and told to stay with the group as Maoist guerrillas were active in the area. :o We all followed like dutiful sheep after that.

This time the tour guide is an Indian Buddhist whose actual real name is Upasak. :-)
