‘Mayans were right, world is ending’ - Julia Gillard
“The end of world is coming. It wasn’t Y2K, it wasn’t even the carbon price,” said Gillard firmly. “It turns out that the Mayan calendar is true.” More here

Solar flare
Thus shall ye think of all this fleeting world:
A star at dawn, a bubble in a stream;
A flash of lightning in a summer cloud,
A flickering lamp, a phantom, and a dream.

Maitreya
Equanimity is the ground. Love is the moisture. Compassion is the seed. Bodhicitta is the result.
-Paraphrase of Khensur Rinpoche Lobsang Tsephel citing the Guhyasamaja Tantra
"All memories and thoughts are the union of emptiness and knowing, the Mind.
Without attachment, self-liberating, like a snake in a knot.
Through the qualities of meditating in that way,
Mental obscurations are purified and the dharmakaya is attained."

The good thing about having the world end on 21 december is that at least we get to miss out on all the commercial christmas joy nonsense!

I think that the best thing about the end of world is that my government will not be able to give us more taxes.

But after reading this I understand;
St. Nicholas is important in Greece as the patron saint of sailors. According to Greek tradition, his clothes are drenched with brine, his beard drips with seawater, and his face is covered with perspiration because he has been working hard against the waves to reach sinking ships and rescue them from the angry sea.
You guys have it all wrong, this guy isn't any fun, bunch of soggy toys under the tree, and he probably leaves a huge mess to clean up.
Come to Canada and we'll show you how it's done.

There is a certain sense to having a bit of extra light during the darkest days of the year, and Christmas lights are pretty, but they sure are a drain on our energy resources. More "natural light", such as luminarias, please.floating_abu wrote:But, dude! I like Christmas decorations
If they can sever like and dislike, along with greed, anger, and delusion, regardless of their difference in nature, they will all accomplish the Buddha Path.. ~ Sutra of Complete Enlightenment

Yea, but we definately have enough energy to make it a few more days. Might as well leave them on 24/7, I won't even have to pay the electric bill.viniketa wrote: There is a certain sense to having a bit of extra light during the darkest days of the year, and Christmas lights are pretty, but they sure are a drain on our energy resources.
