Re: Where is Mahayana Buddhism practised?
In addition to the answer above, Mahayana Buddhism is largely practiced in central and east Asia, through the Himalayan areas of Nepal and Ladakh into Tibet; further into central Asia in the rest of Tibet, into the west-central provinces of China, and into Mongolia; the east into the entirety of China all the way through to Korea and Japan; and then south a bit into Taiwan and Vietnam.green89 wrote:Where is Mahayana Buddhism practised?
In these places, not only is Mahayana Buddhism - in one or other of it's many forms - the basic type of Buddhism practiced, but Buddhism itself is the most popular religion.
From the vast expanse, one can already have an idea that what goes under the name of "Mahayana Buddhism" is very, very broad indeed, and includes a huge amount of variation.
