Ullambana Day
Today 22 August, 2010 is the day we help our relatives and ancestors via giving to the Sangha. See the Ullambana Sutra.
May all seek, find & follow the Path of Buddhas.

Isn't it on 24th Aug '10 or the 15th day of the 7th Lunar Month as per the Chinese Mahayana calendar?
And I thought 22nd Aug is dedicated to Mahastamaprapta Bodhisattva, the third of the 'Three Sages of the West'?http://cttbusa.org/ullambana/ullambana.asp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I am following the CTTB calendar: http://cttbusa.org/cttb/annualevents.asp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Here is the entire 2010 calendar; a very handsome one too: http://www.cttbusa.org/calendar/drba2010calendar.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
And yes, Great Strength Bodhisattva is celebrated today also.

Re: Ullambana Day
Looks like it's a trend these days for certain temples to carry forward the liturgical celebrations like the local FGS temple that I attend, it has the tendency to bring forward those events perhaps to accomodate people's schedules and convenience rather than strictly following the liturgical calendar dates per se...but I guess as long as it works fine for all...
Yes CTTB calendars are superb

Yes, the actual Ullambana day is on this Tuesday. Today is the celebration of Mahasthamaprapta's Birthday which also happens to be the day where most monasteries celebrate the Ullambana day.plwk wrote:Isn't it on 24th Aug '10 or the 15th day of the 7th Lunar Month as per the Chinese Mahayana calendar?And I thought 22nd Aug is dedicated to Mahastamaprapta Bodhisattva, the third of the 'Three Sages of the West'?http://cttbusa.org/ullambana/ullambana.asp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
