Yes, silk is quite a lovely material. But unfortunately, it is made by boiling living silk worms before they have hatched into moths. So I have always found it disconcerting that it is so highly valued in Tibetan Buddhist culture. I like to imagine that the silk garments of the Sambhogakaya are made by a special kind of miraculous silk, offered by bodhisattva silk worms who are able to produce it freely without dying.
