Lesson from the Sun

The sun blesses us in many ways. It, for one, is the source of all life on this planet. For that we should be thankful. But this lesson is not about.

For all of its blessings and great gift and offering it provides us, it is requisite of only one thing lest we feel it's pain: We must remain humble. For one with a bowed head is humble and mindful of the gifts that the sun provides. For one with a foolish head who wishes to know the sun, it punishes thee for looking into it's eye. In this pain of staring at the sun, we are given knowledge, however, that desire will lead us to suffering, and to be humble and accepting is to reap the fruits of this world correctly.

So sayeth Zealot.

Yes, why not? If we value life, we should value all that supports life. By treating the mundane as sacred, we come to better appreciate the mundane.

I think justifying attachment to the sun is wrong, also saying that we need to suffer the consequences of something, when there is no reason for suffering.

Well, the tantric approach of viewing all phenomena as the deities of the mandala is really the same thing... and leaving no time for anything else is exactly the point of such sacred outlook!

I was once on retreat and we were asked to choose something to internally visualise and meditate on. Later at tea, we discussed our visual meditations. Most used flowers, candle flame, a Buddha etc. The wonderful and positive arisings they had experienced . . .
They should not have asked me. I choose a dog turd. Revulsion is an interesting thing. Luckily an experienced meditator was able to explain confirm the merit in focussing on the emptiness of all mind constructions . . . Personally I could not give a Sun . . .
