Make me one with everything?

I don't understand that joke (and neither does the Dalai Lama - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlIrI80o ... r_embedded ). Can someone explain what is funny about it?

Hi Stefan,

Nothing.
Its a really old and a not very good joke and is based on a misconception of Buddhism and what the Dalai Lama teaches.

The Dalai Lama goes into a pizza shop and says "Make me one with everything"
"One with everything" is meant to be the goal of Buddhist practice and is also a type of pizza that contains all ingredients.
Do you get it now?
Or would you like a pizza napoli?

The only 'funny' thing about the video was the Dalai Lama laughing at Stenovic's embarrassment and the fact that the breakfast show host was summarily chastised by his peers around the world. Not that I suggest that anyone engage in Shaudenfreude, but, the episode was one of pure idiocy. Perhaps next time he'll think before he says something dim-witted.
kind regards

Ben

It might be worth adding that " Being One With Everything " IS a goal in Advaita Vedanta..and is commonly and mistakenly thought to be the goal of Buddhism too.
The going for refuge is the door of entrance to the teachings of the Buddha.
