Constant rewriting of history

A place for discussion of current events. Buddhist news would be particularly appreciated.

Constant rewriting of history

History is being constantly renewed and rewritten, especially with the help of new people and young people, who have never known anything else. Thus we live in a total fantasy land, in a fantasy world, that we take to be true. One example that I came across recently http://www.shunya.net/Text/Blog/LandOfTwoRivers.htm
There it says:"Punjab" comes from two Persian words, panj("five") and ab("water"), thus signifying the land of five rivers( the Beas, Chenab, Jhelum, Ravi, and Sutlej).
Firstly, the two words are not persian but sanskrit, panj is "five", the ab was before abh meaning "peaks", the Five Peaks were naturally given a hindu explanation, and anybody familiar with Manjushri and China immediately thinks of WuTai Shan which means Five Peaked Mountain ( sacred to Manjushri). Now they have made it even better: It is Two Rivers and from persian, and most likely it really means Babylonia ( Land of Twin Rivers) and Punjab is now the indian equivalent of Babylonia ! Thus we have a new and improved version of history. The new and the young don't know anything else! That is why they are so important, so valuable, so precious for the making of the New Truth!
