It's an interesting picture this fellow is painting, but I am unsure if he has it right. It would not surprise me to find large scale electrical phenomenae in a place like the Orion Nebula, but I'd like to see a more detailed model and more supporting data.

Although there seems little connection between plasma cosmology & buddhadharma, that may not be so. The old saying about the microcosm reflects the macrocosm, is, in this case the electrical nature of man (nadis, chakras etc in our subtle body) reflecting the electro-magnetic plasma universe.

Beautiful stuff, but phrases like "the electrical energy that powers the star" worry me. It's not enough to have a new theory, the theory has to be predictive, and it has to predict better than the old theory.

I don't give this site a lot of credibility. The journal articles were much better. I think untrained people are jumping on the bandwagon and damaging the basic premises.

Predictability is a big deal in science and the Big Bang is the biggest deal in Cosmology. Here is a short piece considering the so-called confirmation of the Big Bang by the Cosmic background average temperature of 2.73K:

One has to do a double-take. Whenever a hypothesis is supposed to take the place of further study, there's a problem...

I may have seen this Morgan Freeman narration when broadcast, but do not have time to watch it now. But if the show is suggesting that the vital force in biological organisms is the key to cosmology, then that is great!

Whether the Plasma Cosmologists go that far, I do not know. They seem to emphasize observation over mathematical theories, but still, most of what I have read is couched in terms of 'non-living' magnetism, electricity, plasma currents - forces & energies.

But we shall see what the near future holds.

Why plasma? Firstly plasma is has magnetic & electric properties. Secondly, it can be reproduced in the lab and Thirdly, the way plasma acts in the lab can be seen writ large in the Cosmos.

My worry is that 'legit scientists' will continue to use the 'cranks in the field' notion to scoff at and ignore the argument.

The mainstream may just try to label the whole field crank science, true. But there is at the core, a group of ordinary thinkers trained in ordinary science who are saying, look, electromagnetics can't be simply ignored in the universe at large. And they are referring to real experiments published in real journals and books by real icons of the scientific world. They are really just accepting the data, which is telling us that no known form of matter corresponds to the putative properties of dark matter. So they say "fine, let's assume there is no dark matter and see if anything else could explain the data... oh look here's electromagnetism. That might do it."

Do you know of any responses from the powers that be? I haven't heard a peep in response.

I am closer to cranks than any 'powers' that be.

Did you notice that the British scientist in the video, who was mildly suggesting that his peers pay serious attention, was retired? Bet he said nothing while wedded to 'legit' science earlier in his career. Only now will he speak up - par for the course.

That being said, I do think a huge shift toward Plasma studies in astronomy will happen in the next 3 years.

You know, I really think the only thing stopping a rush into plasma cosmology is training. The equations of plasma physics are devilishly hard to solve, and I wonder how many astronomers are trained to do that sort of thing. OTOH they are doing marvelous simulations of convection and nuclear reactions in the Sun so they do have the expertise to do detailed and accurate numerical simulations.
