Upaya Chaplaincy Program

Postby kirtu » Mon Jul 19, 2010 3:06 pm

Joan Halifax Roshi has instituted a Buddhist chaplaincy program at the Upaya Zen Center.

Upaya is offering a two-year Certificated Buddhist Chaplaincy Training Program in Prison, End-of-Life-Care, Peacemaking, Youth, Women’s and Environmental Ministry. The training is open to those who wish to be ordained as Buddhist Chaplain Priests, Lay Chaplains, and also those who wish to deepen their understanding of service from the Buddhist and systems perspective.
....
Upaya's Buddhist Chaplaincy Program is appropriate for people who have a commitment to Buddhist practice and teachings, along with an ongoing involvement in engaging with Buddhist practice and teachings in daily life in service to others.

The Upaya Zen Center is also offering a Being with the Dying Program:
Being With Dying Training – This professional training program in contemplative end-of-life care has long been dedicated to fostering a revolution in care of the dying. This unique program provides clinicians with essential tools for taking care of dying people with skill and compassion, as well as sustaining resilience and dedication as they serve others. This unparalleled program brings together, in a unique and powerful way, wisdom and practicality to the very sensitive and inevitable experience of encountering the end of life.

It looks pretty cool. I like the University of the West's program outline too.
