No offense taken, not a problem at all.CrawfordHollow wrote:I appologize on my part for my part for the misinterpretation T. Chokyi. No offense intended.
I enjoyed how she phrased what she said, and actually I thought maybe it was from a book somewhere.

One should do nothing other than benefit sentient beings either directly or indirectly - Shantideva

If you are looking for that sort of thing, check out "Blazing Splendor", although its not comprehensive.
Mainly focuses on the times of Chokgyur Lingpa.

Re: masters of the tradition
This book is not specific to the dzogchen tradition, it is of early siddhas of India of the mahamudra lineage leading to the Kagyu. For historical account of practitioners of dzogchen, you need to look up at the nyingma source, the book Nyingma School of Tibetan Buddhism should be what you are looking for.RikudouSennin wrote:is this a good book for bios/stories of the masters of dzogchen?

Re: masters of the tradition
Not sure if anyone has mentioned it yet, but Nyoshul Khenpo's Marvelous Garland of Rare Gems is supposed to be an excellent collection of biographies of the masters of Dzogchen. Also, in terms of ancient Indian Dzogchen masters, Wellsprings of the Great Perfection is pretty cool, IMO. Not really biographical, per se, more like songs or soliloquies of realization that explain Dzogchen, plus some exerpts of important tantras of the 3 series.
P.S. Blazing Splendor is an amzing book. My absolute favorite autobiography of any master/partial biography of various Dzogchen masters. Fascinating book. I can read it over and over.

Re: masters of the tradition
actually it's about masters of the Longchen Nyingthig tradition, which are dzogchen teachings from the Nyingma school and not mahamudra / KagyuJyoti wrote:This book is not specific to the dzogchen tradition, it is of early siddhas of India of the mahamudra lineage leading to the Kagyu. from the sounds of it, I'll have to get a copy of Blazing Splendor
Re: masters of the tradition
No Jyoti, you must be mistaking this for another book. This is about the Longchen Nyingthig (Nyingma) tradition.Jyoti wrote:This book is not specific to the dzogchen tradition, it is of early siddhas of India of the mahamudra lineage leading to the Kagyu. Jyoti
To have mastered the Longchen Nyingthig, the Heart Essence of the Vast Expanse, one would have to be a Dzogchen Master. No Nyingma library is complete without this book. It's weak in the female category, but we have other books for that.

Dzogchen masters I know say: 1)Buddhist religion essence is Dzogchen 2)Religions are positive by intent/fruit 3)Any method's OK unless: breaking Dzogchen vows, mixed as syncretic (Milanese Soup) 4)Don't join mandalas of opponents of Dalai Lama/Padmasambhava: False Deity inventors by encouraging victims 5)Don't debate Ati with others 6)Don't discuss Ati practices online 7) A master told his old disciple: no one's to discuss his teaching with some others on a former forum nor mention him. Publicity's OK, questions are asked from masters/set teachers in person/email/non-public forums~Best wishes

It is due for a reprint, later this year. At least according to the last review on the amazon page.
