What's sangha?

Aren't there 3 refuges? What are they, and if sangha is one of them what exactly is it? Does an online community like this qualify?

In English, those are typically called 'Monasteries'.

A sangha is simply a community of practicing Buddhists, often led by a spiritual 'master ' who may have been formally 'ordained'.

As to whether or not this 'electronic forum' qualifies as a sangha, you will likely find widely differing opinions.

The others are the Buddha and the Dharma.

If they can sever like and dislike, along with greed, anger, and delusion, regardless of their difference in nature, they will all accomplish the Buddha Path.. ~ Sutra of Complete Enlightenment

It used to refer to enlightened Sangha in the past, the arhats and all. Of course we don't have that many arhats in abundance like it was during Buddha's time.
