The most interesting part for me, was a bit after 1:03 when Professor Sharf explains how calligraphy, tea ceremonies, and martial arts became associated with Zen in popular culture as a reaction against the persecution of Buddhists during the Meiji Resoration, although Zen was not originally associated with these things beyond the fact that the samurai happened to learn these arts in Rinzai Zen temples (but didn't consider these arts as part of Zen).
