Anti-Tibetan Buddhism Signs

Postby Indrajala » Sat Jul 07, 2012 9:16 am

In Taiwan there are some people quite opposed to Tibetan Buddhism. On one of the main train lines they have these announcements plastered on the side of a building (I took these today):

I suspect this stems from their concerns about consort practices. I was once at the National Palace Museum and some individuals were handing out bilingual booklets with graphic images of tantric deities coupling, condemning it as wrong.

They really went all out with these signs on the side of a building though. You can easily see it from the train and on the platform.

I wonder who is paying for the campaign.

The money trail would maybe lead back to rival sects.

Someone should add to the poster listing all the other religious groups where sexual predation takes place - you'd need a VERY long banner. ;)

It might have to do with the fact that many "Rinpoches" come to Taiwan and then sleep with the girls and take away a lot of money.

I just wonder who is the organization that can have the money and put the advertisement like that? :broke:

There is a point why tantra should be hidden.

Thanks Veneer,

From the website, it seems that there are already some wrong consort practices have occurred in Taiwan.

From a traditional Chinese Buddhist POV I can understand their concerns and have some sympathy for them. We all know there have been numerous sex scandals involving lamas and these aren't confined to the West so to some extent the criticisms are justified but it's a shame the profound methods of Highest Yoga Tantra have been so completely misunderstood and misrepresented. Degenerate age and all that....

Well, placing banners with defamatory sweeping comments like those probably isn't the best way to go about it, I'd say.
Moreover, after reading that article I wouldn't touch that Foundation with a ten foot pole.

"To love. To be loved. To never forget your own insignificance. To never get used to the unspeakable violence and the vulgar disparity of life around you. To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power. Above all, to watch. To try and understand. To never look away. And never, never, to forget." –Arundhati Roy
