To the teacher, endowed transcendent destroyer, one thus gone, foe destroyer, completely and fully awakened one, perfect in knowledge and good conduct, one gone to bliss, knower of the world, supreme guide of beings to be tamed, teacher of gods and humans, to you the Buddha, endowed transcendent destroyer, glorious conqueror Shakyamuni, I prostrate, make offerings and go for refuge. (3x)

When, O supreme among humans, you were born on this earth,
You paced seven strides,
Then said, "I am supreme in this world."
To you, who were wise then, I bow.

With pure bodies, form supremely fine;
Wisdom ocean, like a golden mountain;
Fame that blazes in the three worlds,
Winner of the best -- supreme guide, to you I bow.

With the supreme signs, face like the spotless moon,
Color like gold -- to you I bow.
You are immaculate, the three worlds are not.
Incomparable wise one -- to you I bow.

Great compassionate Protector,
All-knowing Teacher,
Field of positive potential and good qualities vast as
an ocean --
To the Tathagata, I bow.

Through purity, freeing from attachment,
Through virtue, freeing from the lower realms,
Unique, supreme ultimate reality --
To the Dharma that is peace, I bow.

Having freed themselves, showing the path to freedom too,
Well established in the trainings,
The holy field endowed with good qualities --
To the Sangha, I bow.

Do not commit any non-virtuous actions,
Perform only perfect virtuous actions,
Subdue your mind completely
This is the teaching of the Buddha.

A star, a mirage, a flame of a lamp,
An illusion, a drop of dew, a bubble,
A dream, a flash of lightning, a cloud --
See conditioned things as such!

Through this positive potential may sentient beings
Attain the state of all-seeing, subdue the foe of faults,
And be delivered from the ocean of cyclic existence,
Perturbed by the waves of ageing, sickness, and death.

From the Chinese Mahayana Buddhist Liturgical Chants:
The Great Buddha Gatha
The Buddha, praised and precious endlessly,
Diligence of innumerable kalpas achieving Supreme Enlightenment,
Of majestic golden purplish hue, sixteen feet tall,
Awakened, in surrounding snowy summits,
The Urna radiating brilliant beams,
Dispelling the ignorance of Six Realms,
In Threefold Assemblies, under the Dragon Flower Tree, may we gather,
Listening to Dharma's Truth,
In Threefold Assemblies, under the Dragon Flower Tree, may we gather,
Listening to Dharma's Truth!

The Buddha Praise
In Heavens above and all below, the Buddha, incomparable,
In Tenfold Directions' Lands, peerless is He,
All in this world, have I seen, without exception,
Nothing is parallel to the Buddha,
Homage! Guide of the Saha World, the Threefold Realms,
Compassionate Father of Fourfold Beings, Teacher of Gods and Men,
Of Threefold Transformational Bodies, Original Teacher, Sakyamuni Buddha.
Namo Original Teacher, Sakyamuni Buddha. (Recite while circumnabulating)

Namo Amitabha Buddha!

Skillful compassionate one born into the family of the Shakyas,
You conquered the hordes of Mara, which others could not.
Your body is splendid like a mountain of gold.
To you, the King of the Shakyas, I prostrate.

Realizing the nature of samsara with compassion;
Looking upon samsara without separating the mind from Dharmakaya;
Manifesting in various emanation forms;
Previously born in the Tushita Heaven;
Descending from that Heaven;
Conceived and born on earth;
Expert in the creative arts;
Enjoying the kingdom;
Renouncing, and enduring hardship to approach the heart of enlightenment;
Subjugating maras and achieving enlightenment;
Turning the wheel of the enlightenment teachings;
Entering into Parinirvana;
Manifesting these activies until the end of samsara, the impure realm.

Praise Of Buddha Shakyamuni For His Teaching Of Relativity (beginning)

Reverence to the Guru, Manjughosha!

Homage to that perfect Buddha,
The Supreme Philosopher,
Who taught us relativity
Free from destruction and creation,
Without annihilation and permanence,
With no coming and no going,
Neither unity nor plurality;
The quieting of fabrications,
The ultimate beatitude!

Homage to Him whose vision and speech
Made Him unexcelled as Sage and Teacher,
The Victor, who saw the relativity (himself)
And then taught it (to us all)!

Misknowledge is the very root
Of all the troubles in the world;
Who saw and got rid of it
Proclaimed universal relativity.

Thereupon, how could it be possible
That the Geniuses would not understand
The path of relativity
As the very pith of Your Teaching?

Like Mount Sumeru, you are unmoved by honor or scorn.
You love moral beings and immoral beings equally.
Poised in equanimity, your mind is like the sky.
Who would not honor such a precious jewel of a being?
from the bodhisattva Ratnakara's* praise of the Buddha in the Vimalakirti-nirdesha Sutra

* Ratnakara means "Jewel Mine." The Chinese versions give his name as "Jewel Ray" (Ratnarashi).
