Thus shall ye think of all this fleeting world:
A star at dawn, a bubble in a stream;
A flash of lightning in a summer cloud,
A flickering lamp, a phantom, and a dream.

Amazing stuff!
Will need to listen to that many times.
Thanks so much for posting that.

Shame on you Shakyamuni for setting the precedent of leaving home.
Did you think it was not there--
in your wife's lovely face
in your baby's laughter?
Did you think you had to go elsewhere (simply) to find it?

Thanks again for posting that.
I found the You-Tube source of those talks and have been listening to them for a few hours now (didn't realise it was that long!)
You made my day by posting that.
There's really some deep points made in those talks....well worth listening to and thinking about.

You know, it's been a while since I've paid a visit to Alan Watts. I used to love "The way of Zen" when I started out. Later on, I was more focused on all the historical and scholarly flaws there were in there. And to be fair, there are a fair few. But he does speak from the heart, doesn't he? Nice video. I might go back and re-read The Way of Zen and see what I make of it now.

Listening to another of these videos, I like how he puts this: "They [the practices], whether meditative or ritualistic, are not something you do in order to attain anything. They are like artforms. Like dancing. They are expressions of attainment. Of the attainless attainment."

Your welcome, glad you enjoyed it..

Along time ago I used to have his "Zen Clues" on audio book, used to listen to it all the time.. didn't really understand what he was saying but it always made me feel better! haha.
