Seems to me there are some basic points of contention that cannot be resolved. Nothing I've read here convinces me otherwise. Perhaps because they have really not been addressed.

I think you might be on to something there Alan.
Call me Mrs Reactive...but what precisely is the point of threads like these. Are they to promote mutual understanding. Or are they as I suspect an attempt to bring the gospel of the mahayana to the benighted ?

Quite possibly Nana. And maybe the Theravada is a complete path in itself that requires no extraneous material to fill its supposed gaps.
