What does Shije entail?

Post by Knotty Veneer »

Can anyone point me to information on Shije (the practice introduced by PhaDampa Sangye).

What does the practice center around (without obviously giving away info protected by samayas)? For example, Chod focuses on offering the body as way of overcoming dualistic thinking (in the form of the lha-dre) based on ideas in the prajnaparamita literature (poor explanation I know). Does Shije do this too or is it something totally different?

Is there still an unbroken Shije lineage?

Any info gratefully received.

Yes, I think so. For sure the empowerment's and transmission exist.

There's a useful description of the Zhije system in Ringu Tulku's book about Rime.

And there's this earlier thread http://www.dharmawheel.net/viewtopic.ph ... 67&start=0

Lama Tsering Wangdu holds the Shinje lineage. http://www.lamawangdu.org/ Rinpoche visits the US annually for about six months, residing mostly in Portland. But he does get invited to several places in US to teach. He has a close student who runs this center http://www.phadampa.org/

You can also read Lama Wangdu's biography, Hundred Thousand Rays of the Sun (from Amazon) - which tells of his birth in Dingri (Padampa Sangye's holy place) and how he is connected to the Shinje and Chod lineages.

Funny, I just posted to the "Shije in North America" thread.....there's some info regarding what Shije entails in the book I just read--go take a look at that thread, because I'm too lazy to cut and paste!!

i might have missed that, but i can't find any info on what kind of practice shi-je is/was and how does/did it differ from cö?

also this may come as a somewhat offtopic, but can someone clarify the quote from Sky Dancer: The Secret Life and Songs of the Lady Yeshe Tsogyel by keith Dowman:

"To be brief, five hundred years from now, when Tibet is one vast fort bristling with spears, and the valleys and peaks are covered with castles, an extremist she-devil will lead beings down a false path. When her perverse teaching of Severance (gcod) has beguiled the land, an emanation of my
Body will project an emanation of Speech called Drolma; a Body emanation of my Body called Kunga Zangmo will appear; a Mind emanation of my Body called Pelmo of Central Tibet will shine forth; a Quality emanation of my Body called Spiritual Son will appear in Yeru; and an activity emanation of my Body will appear in Tamyul in Kham. Thus the scriptural tradition of the profound Tantra will be reasserted; The perfect esoteric doctrine of Severance will be re-established; The spiritual sons' Four Leonine Blessings will convert beings."

who is this "extremist she-devil"?

Since you don't know how to google: https://dharmawheel.net/viewtopic.php?t=3767

I wouldn't take any Keith Dowman translation to seriously.
