The 8 Day Longchen Nyingthig Mahakala Puja conducted from 24th June to 1st July 2012.Mahakala is a type of wrathful deity and is also known as Defenders of the Law (Dharma). Most of these wrathful deities were bound under the oath to protect Dharma by Padmasambhava and other Buddhist saints during the period of transmission of Buddhism from India to Tibet.
The main task of Mahakala is to fulfill the four enlightened activities, such as pacifying interferences, increasing favorable circumstances, gaining control over situations and destroying obstacles with wrathful force. Thus, Mahakala puja is effective and powerful to dispel one's obstacle as well as to increase favorable conditions.
According to the Tibetan calendar, The month of Saga Dawa is a special month for practice and performing virtuous actions since the birth, enlightenment and parinirvana of Buddha Sakyamuni all falls on the 15th day (4th June 2012) which is known as Saga Dawa Duchen. The effects of positive or negative actions are multiplied by 10 million times.
