Learning Buddhism: Source of Temporary and Permanent Happiness
“Learning Buddhism, source of temporary and permanent happiness,” is a teaching that reflects the essence of the Buddha’s teachings. The teachings will give an introduction to the fundamental and most important concepts found throughout Buddhist practices and curriculum. This will cover the main points regarding the Buddhist view, conduct and meditation practice, with easy-to-understand explanations.

Saturday, August 9
10 am-12 pm Buddha Nature
Buddha nature is the fundamental nature of all beings. In this teaching we will explore the presence of Buddha nature in all beings is their wish for happiness. This wish is a sign of wanting to identify with the basic nature. This is because we aren’t creating something new or developing qualities that we didn’t have before, but are actually revealing the qualities that have always been there.

2-5 pm Meditation Practice of the Yidam Deity: White Tara Sadhana
Practiced by all four major schools of Tibetan Buddhism, White Tara has been the main deity practice of many well-known Buddhist scholars and siddhas in both India and Tibet, foremost among whom where Nagarjuna and Atisha. White Tara’s special function is to promote long life, both for the practitioner and for others. Ultimately, she is the very nature of dharmakaya, and her practice is a means for attaining liberation.

This teaching will be based on the three excellences (refuge and bodhichitta, nondistraction and dedication). Instruction will be given to follow the steps of the generation stages of meditation through the White Tara Sadhana practice which applies to all yidam deity practices.

Sunday, August 10
10-12 pm Introduction of Vajrayana Empowerment
All of us have Buddha nature as the very essence of our being. Buddha nature is the true nature of our mind, but we don’t recognize it; that is why the lama uses the symbols in the empowerment ritual to introduce the disciples to their own innate Buddha nature. This teaching will give an introduction to the meaning of empowerment.

2-5 pm Manjushri Empowerment
Manjushri is one of the most important practices in Vajrayana Buddhism. Manjushri represents the wisdom and knowledge of all the Buddhas. He is depicted as being golden-orange in color and holding a flaming sword and wisdom text.

Through the unbroken lineage of realized masters, going back to Shakyamuni Buddha, the blazing wisdom which cuts through ignorance has been passed down from teacher to student. According to the teachings, ignorance is the root cause of disturbing emotion, and disturbing emotions are the cause of negative karma and suffering; therefore, it is only through severing the root of ignorance that we can completely and finally dispel disturbing emotions and suffering.

It is a great blessing to be able to engage in this group practice of Manjushri. Through this practice, we nurture the seed of wisdom that is innate within each of us, allowing it to grow into a blazing wisdom that will cut through our own ignorance and allow our Buddha nature to gradually awaken and manifest beneficial qualities for the benefit of all sentient beings.

Manjushri’s mantra is believed to enhance wisdom and improve one’s skills in memory, writing, explaining and other scholarly and literary abilities : OM WAGISHORI MUM
