His Holiness Dungse Thinley Norbu Rinpoche in Bhutan

Post by phantom59 »

Places to stay in Rangjung, Trashigang, have been booked full in anticipation of His Holiness Dungse Thinley Norbu Rinpoche’s arrival there by month end. His Holiness Dungse Rinpoche is scheduled to conduct a two-week teaching at the Woeselchholing monastery in Rangjung.Calls pour in every day from friends and relatives looking for a place to stay when attending the teachings. The 12 rooms in the dratshang guesthouse and VIP guesthouse were booked a month ago, according to the general manager, Kinlay. “Most of the rooms have been booked by tourists
and we’ve none to spare, though we get a lot of requests,” said Kinlay. Even the monks are on the lookout for rooms.

Tobgye, a businessman, who owns two houses in Rangjung town, has been approached several times
by local residents and civil servants, some even with cash in hand for accommodation. “I had to decline
because I’ve my own relatives coming over,” said Tobgye, who is also looking for additional space for
relatives and friends. “I receive calls almost daily to reserve some space for my friends or relatives.”

Some have booked houses in the nearby villages, identified areas where tents can be pitched,
while others are arranging to stay in Trashigang town, 17 km away and in Kanglung 39 km away.
“This is a lifetime opportunity and I don’t want to miss it,” said Sonam Dorji, 60, who lives with
his son in Trashigang. Dungse Rinpoche, along with his two sons, Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse
Rinpoche and Garab Rinpoche, daughter and 28 disciples, is on a month-long visit to Bhutan.
The prime minister, Lyonchhoen Jigme Y Thinley, invited him.Dungse Rinpoche spent a few
days in Paro, Thimphu and will now go to Wangduephodrang, Trongsa, Bumthang, Gyalpoizhing
and Trashigang. He will also administer Bazaguru Lüng in Rangjung.

Paro valley is experiencing a rush of a different kind, with devotees from all over the country flocking to the dzongkhag to attend the teachings of His Holiness Dungse Thinley Norbu Rinpoche, who arrived in Bhutan on October 6 after 15 years.Non-tourist hotel rooms in Paro are full and people are crashing with friends and relatives, some are spending the nights in their cars. One of them is Jigme Choeda, 34, who drove from Gelephu via Tsirang.
“It’s a dream come true,” said the policeman and father of two children from Nanong village, Pemagatshel. “We can’t afford to go to the United States to get blessing from him. So it make sense to go and see him when he’s in Bhutan.”

At least 1,000 devotees from different parts of the country have gathered at Satsam chorten in Paro to attend His Holiness’s teachings. Dungse Rinpoche, the son of H H Dudjom Rinpoche, former head of the Nyingma lineage, is a primary holder of the Düdjom Tersar (Nyingma) lineage and is considered to be an emanation of Longchen Rabjam (Longchenpa), the 15th century Nyingma scholar and incarnation of Tulku Drime Oser. He is a pre-eminent teacher of the Nyingma lineage of Tibetan Buddhism and patron of the Vajrayana foundation in California and Hawaii in the U.S.After arriving in Paro, His Holiness visited Satsam chorten and made seven line prayer offerings facing Paro Taktsang (tiger’s nest). His Holiness said Taktsang is a hidden place where Guru Rinpoche meditated and making offerings there could liberate living beings from khorwa (samsara) and attain Zangdogpelri (copper coloured mountain).

Rinpoche also talked about the nature of mind, the leading cause of all suffering and happiness. “Life is all about the principle of cause and effect and, therefore, it’s important to understand it,” he said. “The wealth we accumulate now and the peace we have today are the karmic phenomena of good actions of the past.”
Rinpoche said that the nature of mind is clear but it was those that are guided by bad habitual patterns that lead to suffering and should thus be avoided. After spending few days in Paro, Rinpoche will visit Thimphu and Rangjung, Trashigang, where he will conduct Baza Guru lung (oral transmission of Guru mantra) to the public.
