Buddhist centers near Orange County, CA?

Postby Luke » Sun May 06, 2012 9:22 pm

Hello,

A friend of mine recently moved to Orange Country, CA. She is looking to join a religious group. Could some of you please tell me if there are any Buddhist centers in that area which I could recommend to her?

Thanks.

Which tradition of buddhism? How far from OC is acceptable?

There are plenty of Buddhist centers in Los Angeles. I also know of a Zen center in Long Beach, which is not far from OC. It was founded by my first Zen teacher's teacher, Soyu Matsuoka. http://zensangha.com/

If you give me more information on the first two questions I asked, I could probably mention a few more.

My friend is not a Buddhist, but is open to trying different religious groups, so I would say some type of Buddhist group which isn't too intimidating for newcomers.

Since she doesn't have very strong motivation in this area, I would say as close as possible. I think she's mainly looking for a religious group for social reasons.

She also becomes angry easily and is quite racist and selfish. I'm hoping that she might find some Buddhist group in her area appealing which will help her become a happier and kinder person.

Great Gelug center in Long Beach, which borders Orange County.
