A Buddhist follows some variety of "Buddhist Religion." There are many.

You may want to start with some introductory readings:

Buddhist Thought: A Complete Introduction to the Indian Tradition by Prof. Paul Williams
Vision of Buddhism: The Space Under the Tree by Prof. Roger Corless
Mahayana Buddhism: The Doctrinal Foundations by Prof. Paul Williams

The BIG difference is this:

Christian says there is a God.

Buddhist says there isn't.

Is your question related about the personality/behaviours differences or about differences about teachings and doctrines?

You have completly free ebooks (good ones!) about buddhism here:

You can start with this easy reading for example:

Christ taught the way to God through himself as being the Son of God.

The Buddha taught suffering and freedom from suffering through the noble eightfold path.

The main similarities between the teachings of Christ and the Buddha are the emphasis on abandoning non-virtue and cultivating virtue.

Apart from a few wise passages, Christ did not speak about dualism or how to be free from it.

The large majority of Christians believe that an omnipotent eternal god was the first cause of the universe and created and determines that fate of every human.

Buddhism reject a first cause of everything and rejects a belief in an omnipotent creator god.

Buddhism tradionally recognizes the existens of higher beings, which we call gods, but they are not eternal or omnipotent and are still conditioned by karma.

Buddhas are not omnipotent but omniscent. They have more power and ability than ordinary beings who have not attained full-awaking, but are not omnipotent. They can show the way to full buddhahood and massively speed up to the process for those who go to refuge in them.

Most christians consider this life to be the first and only life in worldly terms, and that they will attain an eternal afterlife with god after death if they practice christianity.

Buddhists belive that all sentient beings have been reborn and are being continously reborn in the 6 realms of existience and that the unconditioned happiness is attaining Nirvana, when the root mental poisons have been fully purified.

My first impression of Buddhism is that I thought they believed in God or a Supreme Deity.

We unequivocally don't believe in an omnipotent God or supreme deity.

Is that a royal "we" or a plural "we"?

What was your impression based on?
One should refrain from biased judgments and doubting in fathoming the Buddha and the Dharma of the Buddhas. Even though a dharma may be extremely difficult to believe, one should nonetheless maintain faith in it. Nagarjuna

I think it can be argued that a "supremediety" can be found in Buddhism, but it's form and function differs to the likes of Christianity. For many Pureland buddhists, Amida is a "supremebeing" but he is not a god. I think what also can be confusing is the word "diety". For a buddhist a "diety" is much different to Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, but to non-buddhists they see no difference (out of ignorance).

Also, when you travel to Asian countries a lot of people see Buddha as a god. However, although these people consider themselves buddhists, quite often they have never read a sutra or taken the precepts. Also, some countries like Japan & China will freely mix their native religions with buddhism, and in such case Buddha is usually portrayed as a god.

Just my two pennies for you.

Seishin

A Buddhist believes suffering is the problem.
A Christian believes suffering is the answer.
