...or maybe I should have asked: Is this an unskillful reaction?
I've edited this post because I'm still trying to figure out how to present it. Truth is, I'd celebrate if Osama Bin Laden were to be killed. What do you think about this issue? Am I looking at it from a wrong attitude? Wrong understanding?
This is a tough one so I'll thank you all in advance for sharing your thoughts.

Greetings Alan,

They'll always find a scapegoat. When the U.S. couldn't find Osama, they went and got Saddam instead.

Did it change anything other than appease the military's short-term sense of macho pride?

Hi Retro.
I agree with you but that was not the point of my question.

Greetings Alan,

Well it was my point as to why it makes little difference and is therefore not worth caring about... thus not worthy of an unskilful reaction.

Greetings Retro.
What makes little difference? I was talking about my positive reaction to a death.

I know, but that isn't the point.

"Hatred never ends through hatred. By non-hate alone does it end. This is an ancient truth." - Dhammapada

If the US has indeed managed to kill this person, I'm sure some one is ready to take his place in the organization and will be looking to avenge his predecessor's death, thus continuing the cycle of violence.

I'm happy because someone was killed. Is this good? Is this bad? Does it make no difference?

I know all about Bush, his lies, and the wars. No need to lecture me about that.

What would it change? The guy who killed thousands of people has been stopped from further violence. Is that a good enough reason or do you really need another?

“No lists of things to be done. The day providential to itself. The hour. There is no later. This is later. All things of grace and beauty such that one holds them to one's heart have a common provenance in pain. Their birth in grief and ashes.”

You may want to rejoice for all the people who are not going to get killed because this guy is no longer helping Al Qaida and feel said that this human being's life was spent on facilitating murder and hatred. This doesn't sound like akusala kamma to me, and yet expresses the normal human feelings that come with an event like this.
