Well, it's not like Western culture is the first non-native one to absorb Buddhism lol.
That said, there's always a fine line, and it's a work in progress at this point. The biggest dangers right now IMO are the appropriation of Buddhism for materialistic aims, and the leaving out of big chunks of important bits.. again though it's one of those fascinating areas where figuring out what goes in what category isn't always easy.
