Hello Dharma friends

I have question on wake up sermone statement :

The essence of the Way is detachment. And the goal of those who practice is freedom from appearances. The sutras say, Detachment is enlightenment because it negates appearances .

What is mean appearances ?

Appearance () means all the things that we see, hear, smell, taste, touch and think. So the Heart Sutra says, "no form, sound, smell, taste, touch, or dharmas".
"If the Buddha-Nature is seen, there will be no seeing of a nature in any thing."
(Nirvana Sutra, T12n374p521b3; tr. Yamamoto)

"Neither cultivation nor seated meditation — this is the pure Chan of Tathagata."
(Mazu Daoyi, X1321p3b23; tr. Jinhua Jia)

"With sudden enlightenment to Tathagata Chan,
The six paramitas and myriad means are complete within that essence."

(Yongjia Xuanjue, T2014p395c14; tr. from "The Sword of Wisdom")

Lakṣana. It can mean marks, defining characteristics, signs. All appearances are defined by: rise, stay, change, cease, i. e. birth, life, old age, death.

Detach from stuff that does that, and you'll be free!
