How it all started

No holds barred discussion on the Buddhadharma. Argue about rebirth, karma, commentarial interpretations etc. Be nice to each other.

How it all started

I have watched the video on this post for quite a lot of times and I still can't figure why people can conclusively say time does not exist before the big bang.

I suppose my opinion about this is that, could it be possible there is more than one big bang in the entire 'neverending' universe? I mean the big bang where our universe is in, at the time of the big bang for our current part of the universe, another big bang had already been activated or started already. I may not be making sense would appreciate people's views on this.

Thanks.

The idea is explained at about 32:00 with the idea of quantum field theory. Here are another two links which may help.

It suggests that solid matter is simply a by-product of the potential activity of electrons in a partial vacuum, and as such there is no cause and effect operating at this level - without cause and effect then there is no passage of time as such. I hope this helps.

I've heard theories like that. There several different "multi big bang" theories. However, as scientists can't even measure the size of the universe, all these theories are mostly guesses.
“After I have said that I want all beings to become buddhas, I get unhappy when harmdoers get even minimal prosperity or honor. This is extremely contradictory.’ You must eliminate your jealousy regarding any sort of attainment by other persons and delight in it from the depths of your heart. Otherwise your Bodhicitta and the achievement of the welfare and happiness of beings are nothing but words.”

An eminent scientist, and prominent skeptic; with research interests then in these areas and latterly around P Membrane superstring theory and who is currently attached to CERN had, whilst teaching at Oxford a large horseshoe nailed to the wall in his study... open end up... 'to catch good luck'.
When asked about this apparent anomaly he was wont to reply....
"Whilst I do not personally subscribe to such superstitious nonsense, I am assured that it works; whether I believe in it, or not".
