I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it.

Greetings Don,

Groucho's part of the way there... now just to see through what constitutes "I"!

Thanks for sharing.

Metta,
Retro. :)

All that we are is the result of what we have thought. If a man speaks or acts with an evil thought, pain follows him. If a man speaks or acts with a pure thought, happiness follows him, like a shadow that never leaves him.

All things appear and disappear because of the concurrence of causes and conditions. Nothing ever exists entirely alone; everything is in relation to everything else.

The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher strates. The great teacher inspires. -William Arthur Ward

Is it not easy
to laugh
at others
when ignorant
of the Truth of the World?
To spread the poison
of hatred and pain
when one’s vision
is clouded by
the fog
of ignorance and aversion
attachment and delusion?

For when we recognize
The Truth
and understand
the suffering
that all life entails,
only tears
of compassion
can fall
from eyes
that are fully open.

David J. Lister

All wrong-doing arises because of mind. If mind is transformed can wrong-doing remain?

However many holy words you read, however many you speak, what good will they do you if you do not act on upon them?

There is no absolute in Buddhism. If there were it would be compassion.

"And any man who knows a thing knows
He knows not a damn, damn thing at all
And every time I felt the hurt
And I felt the givin' gettin' me up off the wall

I'm just gonna take a minute and let it ride
I'm just gonna take a minute and let it breeze"

From the first chapter of the Dhammapada.

Quote:

An English version of the same statement in Pali and Sanskrit:
Quote:
OM YE DHARMA HETU-PRABHAVA HETUM TESHAM TATHAGATO HYAVADAT TESHAM CHA YO NIRODHA EVAM VADI MAHASHRAMANAH SVAHA

(the above in Tibetanized Sanskrit):

"Regarding dharmas that arise from a cause, the Tathagata taught their cause and also their cessation. Those were the words of the Great Mendicant."

This is found in the Nikayas and is the response by an Arhat to a wandering ascetic asking for a summation of the Buddha's teaching (and I think that wandering ascetic was Shariputra).

Greetings,

"All concepts of 'going', 'coming', 'being born', 'growing old' and 'dying' are to be found in the prolific. They simply do not exist in the nonprolific."

Hi Laura! Thank you Kirtu to explain those quotes above. The first came from an old calender. Hehe. :thanks:

..............

Practise? If I only could start, I shouldn't be to hold anymore!

The first thing upon we should meditate
Is our precious and fleeting human life,
Hard to obtain, and easy to destroy;
I will now give it meaning. (Kalu Rinpoche)

Renunciation is not getting rid of the things of this world, but accepting that they pass away.

One day Ananda, who had been thinking deeply about things for a while, turned to the Buddha and exclaimed:
"Lord, I've been thinking- spiritual friendship is at least half of the spiritual life!"
The Buddha replied: "Say not so, Ananda, say not so. Spiritual friendship is the whole of the spiritual life!"
-Samyutta Nikaya, Verse 2

"Notions such as my country, your country, my religion, your religion, have become minor. We must on the contrary, insist on the fact that the person is as we are. This is humanity! This is why we must re-examine our educational system."

His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

I bow and put my hand on my heart by greeting a muslim, show my hands palms together for Hindu, Christian, Buddhist, Jaïns... and see no differences, even not these labels.
I see people and love them so much.
