Seems like a whole lot of this kind of thing going around..
Not to many years ago a scientific survey found 25% of Americans believe the sun revolves around the earth.
My personal theory is that something in fundamental theism perhaps the ending of inquiry, the bliss as end, or something else, destroys the minds ability to perform the rational. Hence the abscription to such flawed theories of life such as creationism as it presents in its consistant form, despite religious context. I would find the same type of thing assuredly in some native religions of fewer abscribers.
The need to make things simple perhaps? The idea of taking literal meaning, when such is not possible seems the specific error.
