Today, 21st Day/2nd Lunar Month, 21st March 2014, the Chinese Mahayana world commemorates Samantabhadra Bodhisattva, one of the Noble Sages of Sukhavati
Featured in the video above are places of natural scenery & monasteries on Éméi Shān / Mt Éméi / ‘Lofty Eyebrow Mountain’.
Located on the western rim of the Sìchuān Basin, south western China, it is about 3,099m / 10,167 ft.
It is also located near the county-level city of the same name Éméi Shān City, which is also part of the prefecture-level city of Lèshān (the site of another ancient & amazing sitting Maitreya stone statue, the ‘Great Buddha of Lèshān’, since 713 A.D, standing at 70m / 233ft with shoulders of 28m width, carved out of a mountain cliff and the tallest Buddha stone statue in the world).
In 1996, both sites were made a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Regarded as the bodhimanda of Samantabhadra, it is one of the 'Four Great Bright Mountains' and the highest peak of the pilgrimage sites of Chinese Buddhism.
“Further, when a person is on the verge of death, at the last instant of life, when all his faculties scatter and he departs from his relatives, when all power and status are lost and nothing survives, when his prime minister, great officials, his inner court and outer cities, his elephants, horses, carts, and treasuries of precious jewels can no longer accompany him, these kings of vows alone will stay with him.
At all times, they will guide him forward, and in a single instant he will be reborn in the Land of Ultimate Bliss. Arriving there, he will see Amita Buddha, Manjushri Bodhisattva, Universal Worthy Bodhisattva, the Bodhisattva Who Contemplates At Ease, Maitreya Bodhisattva, and others. The appearances of these Bodhisattvas will be upright and adorned, and their merit and virtue complete. Together, they will circumambulate him.

The first is to worship and respect all Buddhas;
the second is to praise the Thus Come Ones;
the third is to extensively cultivate making offerings;
the fourth is to repent of karmic obstacles and reform;
the fifth is to follow along with and rejoice in merit and virtue;
the sixth is to request the turning of the Dharma Wheel;
the seventh is to request that the Buddhas remain in the world;
the eighth is to always study with the Buddhas;
the ninth is to constantly accord with living beings;
the tenth is to universally transfer all merit and virtue.

Universal Worthy Bodhisattva then said to the Buddha, “World Honored One, in the last five hundred years, in the turbid, evil world, if there are those who receive and uphold this Sutra, I shall protect them, keep them from harm, and cause them to be peaceful and secure. No being will be able to take advantage of them, be it a demon, a demon son, a demon daughter, a demon subject, or one possessed by a demon, a yaksha, rakshasa, kumbhanda, pishacha, kritya, putana, vetala, or any tormentor of human beings--none shall get at them.”
“If there is a person reading or reciting this Sutra, whether walking or standing, I will at that time mount my royal white elephant with six tusks, and, together with a host of Great Bodhisattvas go to that place, manifest my body, make offerings, protect him, and comfort his mind, and also make offerings to the Dharma Flower Sutra.” The Encouragement Of The Bodhisattva Universal Worthy
