Today, the 19th Day/2nd Lunar Month, 19th March 2014, the Chinese Mahayana world commemorates the first of the tri-annual celebrations, the Nativity of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva.

Featured in the video above are places of natural scenery & monasteries on Pǔtúo Shān or Mt Pǔtúo / Pota (Potalaka), southeast of Shànghǎi, an island in Zhōushān prefecture of Zhèjiāng province, China. Located on the East China Sea, it is about 12.5 square km and 297m above sea level. Regarded as the bodhimanda of Avalokitesvara, it is one of the 'Four Great Bright Mountains' or pilgrimage sites of Chinese Buddhism.

A modern rendition of the ancient late Tang Dynasty tale of the Venerable Egaku (慧锷, huì è / è='Sharp/Keen/Acute; huì=Wisdom/Intelligence'), the 'Immovable Guan Yin' and the founding of Mt Pǔtúo

Luojiashan Island is about 5,3km to the southeast of Putuoshan (Putuo Mountain). There are two sailings daily from the Ferry Terminal to Luojiashan. The ferry journey takes about 30 minutes and the boat will wait for you for two hours. So you need to be prepared for the trip to the island.

Viewed from a distance, Luojia Shan looks like a huge Buddha lying on the sea. There is a saying that it is not complete to pay the pilgrimage to Putuo Shan without going to Luojia Shan.
