Shiraishi Island Pilgrimage

Postby kirtu » Sat Jun 08, 2013 11:46 pm

Amy Chavez, author of "Running the Shikoku Pilgrimage", introduces the Shirashi Island Pilgrimage in a blog entry that was just posted today. This is supposed to be a kind of replica of the 88 temple Shikoku pilgrimage. Shirashi Island lies in the Seto Sea between Honshu and Shikoku.

I'm very interested in replica pilgrimages as they are an interesting solution to the problem of permitting pilgrimage when some other obstacle arises. And more recently in the US, some replica pilgrimage destinations have been created.

Shirashi is not far from Shikoku but nonetheless residents still created a replica pilgrimage trail 400 years ago.
