Been there done that, lost my T-shirt.
There is an old cowboy song about it:
"I am so miserable without you, it is almost like having your here."
"If you have a goat, you have the problem of a goat."
The goat in this analogy is NOT/NOT women - for the feminists out there.
You will have to figure it out.
A wife, child, or any close friend can help you to see yourself very clearly when they call you on your "stuff" as they see it.
Remember where you, they, and their stuff and your stuff will be in 100 years. Puts things in perspective. This is being NAKED in time.
Taking responsibility for your family (should you find yourself having one) and for yourself, is an important part of Dharma practice.
ChNNR has given many wonderful advices on this, usually, at the end of each retreat. I hope someday these advices will be published in a book.
