Mantra Recitation Out-loud or Silently?

Post by The Ticking Man »

In Dzogchen, is it okay to recite mantras silently or is it necessary to do so out-loud for it to be effective? I am specifically interested in ChNN's teaching on this if possible.

Thank you in advance for responding.

Tashi delek,

I don't know mantra reciting in Dzogchen, thought it does belong to Tantra or Sutra Tradition.
Know only the word phat which has to be said loud.
But maybe that ChNN has so his methods, that could be of course.

Best wishes

My teacher emphasizes that mantras are to be done out loud. The sound resonates with and benefits the world around it.

Tashi delek,

One of my teachers gave the advice to do it loud and then more less loud untill it is turning like a wheel silent in the heart.
Then in the practice it goes round and round without reciting it loud. Sometimes it is difficult to stop this inner sound.

Generally speaking, in Dzogchen Community deity mantras like Simhamukha, etc are done quietly, under the breath, not out loud.
