Sure nearly everything is based on karma and that is what we all know.
Is there anything not based on karma?

By understanding everything you perceive from the perspective of the view, you are freed from the constraints of philosophical beliefs.
By understanding that any and all mental activity is meditation, you are freed from arbitrary divisions between formal sessions and postmeditation activity.

The reason one can not attain Buddhahood accidentally is because everything IS based on karma. ie it takes the application of intentional action in order to achieve Buddhahood. The potential is there but it cannot develop without our intentional effort.
