Debate on Immanuel Kant ends in a shooting

A place for discussion of current events. Buddhist news would be particularly appreciated.

Debate on Immanuel Kant ends in a shooting

Postby Konchog1 » Sat Sep 21, 2013 5:42 am

MOSCOW (AP) - An argument in southern Russia over philosopher Immanuel Kant, the author of "Critique of Pure Reason," devolved into pure mayhem when one debater shot the other.

A police spokeswoman in Rostov-on Don, Viktoria Safarova, said two men in their 20s were discussing Kant as they stood in line to buy beer at a small store on Sunday. The discussion deteriorated into a fistfight and one participant pulled out a small nonlethal pistol and fired repeatedly.

The victim was hospitalized with injuries that were not life-threatening. Neither person was identified.

It was not clear which of Kant's ideas may have triggered the violence.

Equanimity is the ground. Love is the moisture. Compassion is the seed. Bodhicitta is the result.

-Paraphrase of Khensur Rinpoche Lobsang Tsephel citing the Guhyasamaja Tantra

"All memories and thoughts are the union of emptiness and knowing, the Mind.
Without attachment, self-liberating, like a snake in a knot.
Through the qualities of meditating in that way,
Mental obscurations are purified and the dharmakaya is attained."

I can just imagine with the kind of debates we have on here, how many shootings would there have been already...
But no worries, there's a Thai amulet for being bullet proof for only $500,000....

So unusual for people to kill over views when god isn't involved.
Or maybe one of them believed in god?
If there is a radical inconsistency between your statements and the position you claim to hold,
you are a sock puppet.

No, just "Stand Your Ground" being applied in the debate yard.

Well, it's a fitting place to debate Kant.

Before the shooting, I hope the shooter asked himself whether his action could be consistently universalized.
