“Dreams are a reservoir of knowledge and experience, yet they are
often overlooked as a vehicle for exploring reality. In the dream
state our bodies are at rest, yet we see and hear, move about, and
we're even able to learn. When we make good used of the dream state,
it is almost as if our lives were doubled: instead of a hundred years,
we live two hundred.”
-Tibetan Buddhist Tarthang Tulku.

The Shurangama Mantra is the longest mantra in Buddhism. It is also
called the most magical and wonderful language. Whoever recites it
will become protected by Vajra Treasury Bodhisattvas of Medicine
Buddha (Akshobhya Mitrugpa). If you want to hold the mantra, you have
to be sincere in your intent, rectify your mind and cultivate your
body. Then you must get rid of your desire for material objects and
people. Now what is meant by getting rid of your desire for material
objects and people? It means to transform of all your desire for
physical comforts, pleasures and things -- it means not having greed
or lust but instead having simultaneous wisdom and compassion. If you
can get rid of material desires, establish your intent to benefit
others more than your self, make firm your determination
(Bodhichitta), and be really sincere, then, in holding this mantra,
you will get a response. Discussion of the entire bird's eye view of
the Shurangama Mantra. Now, in the Shurangama Mantra, right from the
beginning, you take refuge with all Buddhas of the Ten Directions that
pervade empty space in the Dharma Realm. They you take refuge with all
the Great Bodhisattvas of the Ten Directions that pervade the Dharma
Realm and empty space. And then you take refuge with the Arhats, the
Sages of the First Fruit through the Fourth Fruit. Then you take
refuge with all the gods.
