Like so much of the heat generated by the challenged inthis debate it is emotive hot air.
But it becomes clear why someone utterly inarticulate should be impressed by the superficial spin of Brand.
Ad hom for the lose. Congrats.

Perhaps you think it makes sense to cry over the unfairness of people 100 years ago on some tv show in a "lacrimose moment of emotional porn" (Russell Brand's words, paraphrased) because you see the unfairness of those conditions, but totally not hypocritical to uphold the establishment in similar conditions today. For that reason, you would not know when your ass has been handed to you.

Because Brand makes a difference? Although those are just frivolous views of a funny guy, they bring more wisdom then mr Hitchens (RIP) beating a dead horse over and over again.

I am sorry. I have no idea what you are attempting to articulate here padma norbu..apart from the fact that you are clearly vexed about something. I suggest that you try to calm down and regain your composure.
This is after all a Buddhist forum rather than a whacky green forum.

NB What on earth does ' ad hom for the lose' mean ?

Brand 'makes a difference ' ? :rolling:

This side of the Atlantic there is a general consensus among the warmists that he has put back their cause by two years.
Its a bit like being represented on the world stage by Charlie Sheen.

I think we should talk about Russell Brand even more rather than the content of the article in a magazine he is associated with. I mean, I detest Fox News in a similar fashion, but if there is actually an article raised as a point, I should hope to go a little further than just bagging on Fox News as my rebuttal. Of course, it depends on the content of the article.

Third time you've made this point. You don't speak for everyone over there and I don't think anyone cares to hear this a fourth time. If anybody is impressed, I'm sure they will say so. :thanks:

Maybe you should expand your cultural horizons. After all, when I hear a bit of British slang, I don't chuckle to myself and say "what an inarticulate Brit!"

What does 'bagging on Fox news ' mean ?
Is it possible that you are using the demotic vernacular of your specific age and cultural group and assuming that it is common linguistic currency ?

Did they vote, or it's just a gut feeling? Nevertheless, whenever I hear Brand views, I am positively surprised, because his intentions are pure, and he knows how to promote them. It's better to see a crazy guy with a sense of humor fighting for a great cause, then an eloquent wiseacre kicking the shit out of the abrahamic religions for money.
Brand makes a difference because he knows how to speak to simple people, and he knows how to make his words heard.

An alternative might be to remember that Dharma Wheel is read by an international readership spanning an age range from teens to ancients, and to gear our communications accordingly.
Rather than expect others to aquaint themselves with the usages of a unrepresentative subgroup ?

I understand why you would like to put as much distance between our good readership and the topic at hand. I wonder how many more red herrings you can sprinkle around here and for how many more pages.

Brand makes a difference because he knows how to speak to simple people, and he knows how to make his words heard.
There are many many Brits who would find the idea of his intentions being pure as deeply funny.
Perhaps its a case of familiarity breeding contempt. We, his fellow citizens, know having watched him now for some years , that he is just as likely next month or next year to espouse the completely opposite view. Whatever keeps him in the public eye.
My Charlie Sheen analogy is actually pretty close.
My mentioning the Hitchin brothers was in no way to endorse their views. It was to contrast the genuinely articulate and educated, with the empty, pretentious and subtly skewed speech of Brand.
I can assure you he has impressed the rest of the world far more than he has those of his fellow Brits who are more attuned to the use of the kind of language he is aping.

Why should "many many Brits" be seen as a factor here? Why should I pick a fraction of his personality and judge it? I see a man that tries his best to do good things, by promoting self-inquiry, togetherness, peace, social activity, environment awareness etc. Now, I should see him as a jerk, because "many many Brits" don't like the way he speaks? Where's that at? Where is the deep meaning in it?
You demand it from others, but I have never seen it coming from you... No meaning, a lot of complaining and :stirthepot:

You shouldn't.
You should do none of those things.
This is a discussion forum . A view has been postulated. I have responded. My opinion is no more and no less valid than yours...
I will take responsibility for my responses...I have no emotional investment in the way that the discussion develops.
I think its good idea on the whole to practice thread hygiene and not spread our unhappiness from one to another thread.
Particularly if someone has made us feel peeved.

:focus: yes ? Over to youse.

Anyone have a counterargument to the position given in the OP ("We're Doomed"), or to the consensus among competent scientists Nemo described a page or two back?

rolling around in celebrity news, semantic arguments, and personal snubs is not only off-topic, but off-putting.
