Sri Lankan Newspaper Interviews Ajahn Brahm

Postby Jhana4 » Mon Jun 13, 2011 9:53 pm

In reading the scriptures, there are two kinds of mistakes:
One mistake is to cling to the literal text and miss the inner principles.
The second mistake is to recognize the principles but not apply them to your own mind, so that you waste time and just make them into causes of entanglement.

Interesting and vexing in turn, but then I haven't got any notion at all of the pulse of a Sri Lankan newspaper.

Ajahn Brahm in the Sri Lankan Daily News - Again

I liked this quote, which I never heard before

"“When someone calls you an idiot, the more times you remember it, the more times they’ve called you an idiot!”
In reading the scriptures, there are two kinds of mistakes:
One mistake is to cling to the literal text and miss the inner principles.
The second mistake is to recognize the principles but not apply them to your own mind, so that you waste time and just make them into causes of entanglement.

Any point you wish to discuss, J4?
“No lists of things to be done. The day providential to itself. The hour. There is no later. This is later. All things of grace and beauty such that one holds them to one's heart have a common provenance in pain. Their birth in grief and ashes.”
- Cormac McCarthy, The Road

The two Ajahn Brahm topics regarding the the Sri Lankan newspaper interview have been merged.

I think they are two distinct articles.
In reading the scriptures, there are two kinds of mistakes:
One mistake is to cling to the literal text and miss the inner principles.
The second mistake is to recognize the principles but not apply them to your own mind, so that you waste time and just make them into causes of entanglement.

Plus the implied suggestion that the world had to wait 2500 years until a true hero emerged. Ta Dah !
