My name is Yasuko Akiyama. I am a Kansai-jin (Japanese from Osaka), living in London.

I was deeply moved by the destruction caused by the earthquake and tsunami, and decided to do fund raising for children affected by the this disaster.
My friends from all over the world have helped me create the poster and build this website.

The famous Japanese poem ‘Unbeaten by Rain’ is the inspirtation for our poster.

It was written by the poet Kenji Miyazawa. Miyazawa was born in Iwate Prefecture 27 August 1896.

Two months before he was born, the Meiji-Sanriku earthquake struck Iwate Prefecture, and caused a large tsunami. Five days after his birth, the Rikuu earthqake hit Akita Prefecture, and brought destruction to both areas. Miyaza's mother saved him from the second earthquake by using her body as a shield.

Kenji Miyazawa has transcended the generations to become one of Japan's most read and best loved authors.
