• To promote filial piety and unity in family.
Our Beliefs:
• We believe in inter-religious harmony, a major component of world peace, which can only be achieved through mutual respect and tolerance of others' diverse beliefs.
• We believe in the freedom to choose one's religion, through sincerity in belief and understanding and in the absence of brainwashing, spiritual coercion and other forms of unethical conversion.
• We believe in the importance of having individual beliefs in determining what is wrong and what is right within their chosen school of faith and being able to advocate for their changes.
• We believe that there is more common ground in most religions than differences and that the test for true spirituality is the ability to resonate with the same and de-amplify the differences.
• We believe that filial piety does not only extend to taking care of our parents and elderly but also to respect their faith and spiritual habits.
Our observation:
• It has come to our knowledge that many people, when succumbed to illness and approaching mortality, were not supported spiritually by people closest to him/her, and in some case, coerced into accepting a different faith than the one he has been practicing or believing in all his/her life.
• It has come to our knowledge that the perpetrator of these practices are often family members who are close to the dying and they acted with the help of their religious group who; often than not, subscribe to a belief system that is fundamental and medieval.
• It saddens us that some of these individuals, in addition to the suffering of parting with their loved ones and undergoing physical pain in the dying process, have to experience this unnecessary trauma of denouncing their lifelong belief, and to be sent off likewise, so as to satisfy the spiritual arrogance of those closest to them.

Our Roles:

Epitaph Foundation archives for the purpose of recording cases of unethical conversion through interviewing those who are witnesses to such events. We work toward legislation that warrant acts such as unethical conversion as a punishable offense in Singapore's court of law.

What is Epitaph Foundation?

Founded in 2009, Epitaph Foundation is a Singapore based non-profit online free archive service for those who wish to declare and register their faith, religious affiliation, dying and funeral wishes.

Why Epitaph Foundation?

Over the years, Singapore has witness the rise of multi faith families. Unfortunately, some religious leaders encourage converts to see their former faith and those of their family member, if different from them, in negative light and influence them to try to convert their families even their parents.

This attitude has resulted in many cases of religious harassment and unethical death bed conversion and discord within the family.

Everyone has the right to their belief and funeral choices. Epitaph Foundation offers you the opportunity to make known your choice and a public request that your family and friends should respect.

Who needs this?

1) Everyone

It is good to give instructions to avoid conflicts within the family and to protect yourself from unethical conversion.

2) High Risk Victims

People especially at risk are those with family members of a different faith and with family members aggressively imposing their religious views on others.

Your children with different faith might not know how to arrange your funeral arrangements. You can request them to contact a person or religious institute to help.
Take this as an opportunity to think about the issue and ways to protect yourself and to identify family members or friends whom you can entrust to protect your choice.

Why should you register?

Protect yourself against unethical and/or deathbed conversion.

Help your children to understand what you want especially during period of your terminal illness.

Prevent your children from arguing the funeral you “should” or “like to have”.

What preparations do I need to do?

There are a few questions/issues to think about

1) The spiritual assistance you need during your critical illness
2) The funeral arrangement you want.
3) Person or religious organization to contact when you are dying or after you passed away.
4) Any message you like to leave for your family.
5) At least one family member or find us a witness

What happens after registration?

The registration should only take a few minutes if you have thought through the key questions above.

Once you complete the registration, you will be given a copy of the registration certificate. Your details can also be found online.

Keep the certificate and display if necessary to protect yourself against religious harassment in hospital, old folks home or hospice.

In case the paper copy is lost or destroyed; the original form can still be found on the website.

Inform a trusted family member or friend about this declaration.

RESPECT to the very last moment.

You have cared for your family members throughout your life. You have the every right to a funeral of your choice.

You deserve the respect!
