This often includes pay-outs to corporate-owned farms, which are more of the norm nowadays, as a lot of the "family farms" have been dying off, because it's too small of income for an individual to live off of, compared with the amount of work necessary.

When farm aid is directed towards specific crops -- like sugar and grain -- it also has the effect of increasing food prices, reducing the ability of poor countries to export food to wealthier countries, thereby increasing poverty worldwide.

It would make more sense for an educational fund to be set up for those transitioning away from farming. I have family that farm and the surprising thing is, as hardworking as they are physically, they are incredibly lazy mentally and it's one of the main things holding them back from going to college and getting a better career.
