Greetings,

I read abit about Mount. Potalaka, supposedly a mythical mountain where Kannon Bosatsu resides. There was a historical monk that encourage practitioner to take wishes to be born there instead of the land of Amida. I am very interested in reading more on Mount. Potalaka. Can someone kindly point me the right direction with more resources or inserts or articles or even scriptures relating to Mount. Potalaka for further reading?

Thank you very much. I am utmost grateful.

kannon is known also as avalokitesvara/chenrezig. and i would imagine that mt. potalaka is the same as avalokitesvara's pure realm called potala.

Thank you Koncho. Do you happen to know of more reading on Potala? Stories or reference made by scripture? Is it a symbolic place?

Thank you Koncho.

i dont think i know any other sources than google on this matter.

you can search like potala pure land, potala pure realm, avalokitesvara and potala and similar keywords. im sure you come up with something.

as to answer is it a symbolic place. i dont know, but i believe and and know that Avalokitesvara's pure land potala and potala mountain are real places, just like sukhavati.

Thank you for getting back to me Koncho.

It is abit hard googling for information about Potala/Potalaka. It seems like the only thing pop up is a Tibetan building built on top of a mountain named after Potala.

I really appreciate your help. Thank you,

Mt Potalaka, the mountain where Kannon resides is mentioned in the last chapter of the Avatamsaka Sutra, in the Cleary translation it is Appendix 3, 27. Avalokiteshvara. It is thought to be south of India. In Japan Tendai and the Pure Land sects concentrate on Amida but Kegon (Avatamsaka), Hosso (Yogacara) sects in the past and present encourage birth on Mt. Potalaka. I've made a vow to be born there and chant the Great Compassion Mantra (Maha Karuna Dharani Sutra) daily as part of my practices

You do realize that the Potala in Tibet is named after Kannon's mountain, the same for Mt. Putuo in China.

Spirit; I am happy to have helped. There are other mantras too associated with Kannon-sama, here is a link to Eleven-headed Kannon

I have a strong relationship with Kannon bodhisattva and she has helped me cultivate the Dharma in the past, she will help you too!

This was well advocated by the Japanese monk named Jokei. Very well explained in this article http://jkllr.net/2010/01/29/introducing ... o-scholar/
