Why do he and others hold the view that pointing out instructions are valid only if one has abisheka? I might be simplifying the argument a little but from my side seems like Sapan is denying the power of a Bodhisattva. I mean basically Gampopa could point out, use siddhis, emanate, etc.--whatever he felt would be most beneficial to people.
Besides that you have the dakinis and dharmapalas who could also act. Guhyajnana Dakini, the Dakini Leykyi Wangmo, the Dakini Matongha, etc. Six-Armed Mahakala and Four-Armed Mahakala can teach.
These are examples: dakinis and dharmapalas from what I've read are notorious for having a mind of their own.
Just never understood this argument. Christian mode real quick. Like saying Jesus could only perform miracles or baptize his own disciples.
Sacrableu! Not like we're talking about a schmo here.
Sapan and Gampopa
Sapan and Gampopa
I should be meditating.
Re: Sapan and Gampopa
That is not what he is saying. He is saying that pointing out instructions do not have the ability to ripen one to practice mahāmudra in absence of a proper Abhisheka.lorem wrote:Why do he and others hold the view that pointing out instructions are valid only if one has abisheka?

Ah okay.
Yes that makes sense. If you're past 8th level no falling backwards. Can give pointing out and for those who are not ready--may be seed. Die born in animal or hell realm but the causes and conditions will at some point ripen in a human body.
