Questions on Nechung

Postby emptydreams » Mon Jul 01, 2013 9:55 am

A friend is doing a thesis on Nechung, and he needs to find out about a few things. He is not able to travel, and neither can he speak Tibetan or chinese, and needless to say he lacks contacts for this as well. Am hoping that this forum here can help:

he has requested for Nechung's sadhana which he has promised not to practice, but as a study for his paper, and also if Nechung is enlightened or unenlightened, and if there are any proof of that.

Thanks in advance!

I doubt that the sadhana for the Nechung oracle spirits has been translated, if that's what you mean; it is practiced in a very limited circle. . I assume your friend's "thesis" is undergraduate, or he would have to learn Tibetan. If he has not read Nebesky Wojkowitz's chapter in "Oracles and Demons of Tibet", and Johm Avedon's in "In Exile from the Land of Snows", those would be of interest.

"Proof" of the oracle spirit's being enlightened (better to say "beyond the world" or "not beyond the world")is not likely to be available,as there are conflicting views on the subject.
