Is this useful?

When you're discussing or thinking about Mahayana Buddhism and you stop to ask yourself the question (as you often should), "Is this useful?"

...would you always say yes?

A bodhisattva does not become weary of evil beings nor does he commit the error of bringing forth thoughts inclined to reject them and cast them aside. Avatamsaka Sutra, ch. 25

We are after all human...so not always.

When I study I study to exclusion what I find usefull. I cannot even tell you the name of many things nor my practice text, nor if I am buddhist, though I have studied such for many years....such affirms the negative in me,the tendency to label and thusly form conception.....

Discuss....as a means to incite such things that require incitement, and for other purpose spiritually related for the most part. Not totally...we are human.

This internet...if I find it not useful for spiritual purpose I will abandon it entirely. I do so for long periods. This period is one of interaction. In my practice one is advised to go to cities to study mind as well as wilderness.....this is my temporary city. So this serves purpose. When it fails to do so I will abandon it entirely.

Debate serves some similiar purpose as well. So it is engaged at times. Practice necessitates that at times,. my practice.

So I answer about always...not always. Finally considered, in my practices terminology...always...how could it be other?
"This order considers that progress can be achieved more rapidly during a single month of self-transformation through terrifying conditions in rough terrain and in "the abode of harmful forces" than through meditating for a period of three years in towns and monasteries"....Takpo Tashi Namgyal.

I ask that "Is this useful?" question all the time. Oddly, the bulk of Mahayana I find to be not useful. However, that is just the current state of affairs for one practioner of little attainment. It should come as no surprise to anyone that HYT is of no use to a beginner.

The important point to realize is that any answer to the question is temporary, impermanent and changeable. What is useless today may be be very useful tomorrow.
