Chanting/memorizing/repeating dharanis in Sanskrit is far superior to Chinese.

There is no way the Chinese version is older. Surangama is one of the foundational practices of tantra. Not a very well known fact, but Surangama dharani is really the Sitatapatra dharani, which is slightly longer and more complete.

And originates in Sanskrit.
